Zlín - Tomas Bata University in Zlín will build a new laboratory center for the Faculty of Technology. The facility, costing 615 million crowns, is expected to be completed in September 2013. The new building will rise next to the current faculty building in the eastern part of the Svit industrial area. The university received a European grant of over 448 million crowns and a contribution from the state budget of 79 million CZK for the project. Jan Malý from the university's rectorate informed ČTK today.
"The aim of the project is to build quality infrastructure for teaching in master's and doctoral programs, as well as for research and development activities at the Faculty of Technology," stated the rector of Tomas Bata University, Petr Sáha.
In the new building, there will be teaching and special laboratories equipped with modern equipment. The total value of the special equipment will exceed 25.5 million CZK. In addition to laboratories, the building will have three large and three small lecture halls and nine seminar rooms.
In the academic year 2013 to 2014, the laboratory center will serve more than 2,100 students of the Faculty of Technology.
The laboratory center is not the only project of Bata University. Builders are constructing a science and technology park focused on information and communication technologies in the largest Zlín housing estate, Jižní Svahy. The construction will cost almost 220 million. The university is also planning to build a center for polymer systems for 896 million crowns. The facility is set to rise between Antonínova Street and Tomáš Baťa Avenue.
