Dubňany (Hodonínsko) - There is one of the largest solar power plants in the Czech Republic operating in Dubňany near Hodonín. Approximately 12,000 panels with an installed capacity of 2.1 megawatts will provide electricity for 400 family homes. The construction of the seven-hectare facility cost 230 million crowns, said Petr Bína from the investment company Sluneta today. Next year, an expansion of the park in Dubňany to three megawatts is planned. According to the company, Dubňany is at the forefront in the Czech Republic in terms of solar radiation intensity. However, the Dubňany facility produces annually as much energy as the Temelín nuclear power plant can generate in about an hour and a half. The largest solar power plant in the Czech Republic is planned in Dvůr Králové nad Labem in the Trutnov region. The park with a capacity of 3.8 megawatts, costing around 400 million crowns, is to be built directly by the town hall. Currently, the power plants in Bušanovice in the Prachatice region and in Ostrožská Lhota in the Uherské Hradiště region are competing for the title of the largest solar parks in the country, with their capacity being about half of the plans for Dvůr. The Czech Republic significantly lags behind neighboring Germany and other Western European countries in solar energy production. The capacity of all solar power plants in the country is several hundred times lower, even though there are relatively good conditions in the country. In southern Moravia, for instance, solar energy is already being used at the Faculty of Education of Masaryk University in Brno and in several municipalities in the Znojmo region. Solar power plants are also planned in Mikulov, covering an area of over 20 hectares.
