Hodonín – Hundreds of people were attracted by the ceremonial opening of the House of Nature in Hodonín. This modern building, also created with the support of the Karel Komárek Family Foundation, aims to bring the natural beauties of the national natural monument Hodonínská Dúbrava closer to the public. The construction of the house, which is funded by the city of Hodonín, involved the Agency for Nature Conservation and Landscape Protection of the Czech Republic. Besides the foundation, its establishment was supported by the South Moravian Region and the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic.
The 13th House of Nature in the Czech Republic opened to the public on June 1st. This architecturally interesting facility, which was established by repurposing a former kindergarten into an entrance gate to the nearby Hodonínská Dúbrava, has been under construction since the beginning of 2022. The design of its external exhibition was influenced by a tornado that devastated the area around the house and the surrounding location in June 2021. Financial aid of 15 million was provided by the family foundation of the Komárek couple.
“Our foundation decided immediately after the tornado that it would engage in the restoration of public spaces in Hodonín. The House of Nature with a garden is the first result of the long-term efforts of collaborating organizations to create a unique space that will serve people of all generations. We remain active in the area, as we are helping with six other projects both financially and professionally,” stated Karel Komárek, Chairman of the Board of the KKFF Foundation.
Visitors will be particularly captivated by the second floor. The extension features an all-glass wooden construction, and the interior space is decorated with a stylized representation of a bright forest, Hodonínská Dúbrava. This national natural monument ranks among the most valuable botanical locations in the Czech Republic. It hosts a mix of dry habitats and wetlands, allowing for the growth of both steppe and moisture-loving species.
“Visitors will become acquainted, in a popular educational way, not only with the flora and fauna of the Dúbrava but also with interesting biotopes of the Hodonín region. I am glad that, thanks to the financial support of several partners whom we greatly appreciate and thank, we have managed to create a modern educational center that will bring the nature of the region closer to visitors. I believe that the new House of Nature will become a sought-after destination for visitors to the city,” said the Mayor of Hodonín, Libor Střecha.
The construction of the House of Nature Hodonínská Dúbrava, which includes not only the building itself but also internal and external exhibitions (the garden), cost 109.2 million crowns. The project received support from multiple sources, including the Operational Program Environment, the Ministry of the Environment from the state budget through the National Recovery Plan, the Karel Komárek Foundation, and the South Moravian Region.
