MSA
The MSA studio is engaged in various projects, from public space designs for urban development planning. In May 2017, the office received the Mies van der Rohe Award 2017 in the "Emerging Architect" category for the completion of a smaller house in the suburbs of Brussels that included social housing situated on a plot where, at first glance, nothing could be built. Benoit Moritz, who is the co-founder of MSA, will present this building and discuss many other realized and unrealized projects by MSA, not only in Belgium but throughout Europe and Asia.

Gijs Van Vaerenbergh
The projects of the duo Gijs Van Vaerenbergh belong to both the context of architecture and visual arts, yet neither framework is fully satisfactory. Pieterjan Gijs and Arnout Van Vaerenbergh met during their architecture studies and have been working as architects ever since. They also founded a parallel practice in which they applied their technical and theoretical knowledge in experimental research that does not focus on either "users" or creating an autonomous image. The range of outputs from this research spans from projects in public space and architectural buildings to sculptures and smaller works. Within this undefined area, the duo has developed a method that thematizes the tension between function (architecture) and autonomy (image) in increasingly convincing ways and which focuses on the fundamental question: At what point does everyday experience of space become an aesthetic experience?
