Food processing technology is changing at a rapid pace. However, what does not change is the high demands on the operations where food is processed. In order for a product to reach the consumer in perfect and safe condition, it is necessary to minimize the risks of contamination of food and raw materials. That is why fast and easily cleanable doors are installed in food processing facilities, which help meet these demanding requirements.

Legislation requires food producers to ensure that their premises are not a source of contamination and do not threaten food safety. Therefore, manufacturers of industrial doors must not only comply with the highest hygiene standards but also minimize temperature fluctuations, which are critical for food.

What type of doors are ideal for spaces with strict hygiene standards?

The German Federal Association of Food Inspectors (BVLK) explicitly recommends the EFA-SRT® EC "Easy Clean" from EFAFLEX. They are fast and easy to clean. Their design is intended to prevent dirt from sticking to them and to allow easy access for sanitation, including the interior area. This is facilitated by easily removable covers for the frames, curtains, and motor. All water from sanitation drains into the side frames, thereby preventing contamination of the space under the door leaf itself.

The door frame is made of food-grade stainless steel and the flexible curtain is made of fabric suitable for use in the food industry. The doors themselves are not a source of any contamination, such as spontaneous leakage of lubricants or other fillings.

A significant feature of EFAFLEX doors is their extraordinary speed of movement during opening and closing, thus minimizing the time the doors remain open. With rapid opening and closing, the airflow does not have time to change, which minimizes not only potential heat (or cold) loss but primarily undesirable contamination by bacteria or fungi. The functional advantage of EFAFLEX doors as hygienic barriers can be found particularly in areas with controlled air quality and flow, where it is necessary to prevent air mixing between two spaces with different hygienic requirements (e.g., between a hygienic and a non-hygienic zone).

The benefits of EFAFLEX doors also include the option to choose from several different methods for controlling their automatic operation, not only as a means to minimize contamination (no handles – no grips) but also as a way to eliminate bad human habits, such as not closing doors.
