Prefalz - renovation of the original apartment building from 1911, Vienna

The non-profit housing cooperative BWS set two main goals for the reconstructed property as an investor. One was a significant improvement in the quality and comfort of living in the existing apartments. The second was the construction of entirely new attic apartments, including roofing.

From Basement to Roof
The entire reconstruction of 130 residential units took three years. In addition to new plaster, facade insulation, and window replacement, it also included the construction of underground garages, renovation of adjacent public spaces, installation of 15 passenger elevators, and expansion of the attic with 45 new apartments, including a new roof covering.



One of the requirements was to realize the roofing of the building over a total area of 3000 m² in an attractive modern design, with high-quality, maintenance-free material. Architect Michael Bayr recommended the Prefalz aluminum roofing for this reason: “The design of the standing seam and the classic light gray color create a harmonious combination that meets all the investor's requirements based on the unique properties of aluminum and its appearance.”

The innovative Coil-Coating painting method guarantees that the surface color remains permanently smooth, flexible, and is not damaged during seaming. In addition to its specific bendability, aluminum also impresses with its low weight (2.2 kg/m2), making the Prefalz covering particularly suitable for use in renovations. The entire system, including accessories (finishing pieces, penetrations, snow holders, gutters, etc.), is typically supplied in 13 color shades and in two different surface finishes – smooth or stucco.
