Havlíčkův Brod – The main prize in this year's Vysočina Construction Competition was awarded to six projects. The titles of Construction of the Year for the Vysočina Region 2025 were awarded by an expert jury to the Horácká arena in Jihlava, the southeastern bypass of Jihlava, the renovated bridge in Hořepník, the cycling path in Chotěboř, the children's group in Hněvkovice near Humpolec, and the reconstructed wastewater treatment plant in Žďár nad Sázavou. A total of 27 projects were submitted for the 24th edition of the competition. The results were announced today in Havlíčkův Brod.

According to the organizers, the aim of the competition is to recognize successful new constructions as well as sensitive reconstructions. "We want to show that top-notch architecture and honest construction are not just about concrete and bricks, but about creating valuable living spaces," they stated on their website.

The Horácká arena, built by the city of Jihlava with the help of grants for two billion crowns, has been open since last October. It hosts sports and cultural events. In addition to the main prize among residential, public, and industrial buildings, the arena received a prize from the Czech Chamber of Authorized Engineers and Technicians in the Construction Industry (ČKAIT) in the competition.

Two main prizes were awarded to transport structures. The eastern part of the southeastern bypass of Jihlava, opened last year, received a prize for completing a strategic transportation artery that significantly reduces the transit burden on the city. The entire bypass, built by the region, measures six kilometers. It connects the roads to Znojmo, Třebíč, and Žďársko, which also leads to the D1 highway.

The main prize was also awarded to the bridge on the regional road in Hořepník in the Pelhřimov district for a reconstruction that, according to the jury, successfully combined technical innovation with the protection of cultural heritage. The original reinforced concrete arch from 1912 was preserved, and the bridge was enhanced with modern elements that increased its load-bearing capacity. The bridge also received the most SMS votes from the public.

Among the structures for non-motorized transport, the main prize went to the cycling path built by the city of Chotěboř along the route of the former railway siding to its local part, Bílek.

In Hněvkovice, the city of Humpolec transformed a former shop into a low-energy building that serves the children's group Pastelka. This project won the main prize among structures for education and upbringing.

The modernized wastewater treatment plant in Žďár nad Sázavou received the main prize among water management and landscape-forming structures. It belongs to the Association of Water Supply and Sewage Žďársko.

Ten competition projects received honorable mentions from the jury, and four buildings received individual awards from the partners of the competition. The Vysočina Construction Association organizes the competition in cooperation with the Association of Entrepreneurs in Construction, ČKAIT, and the Vysočina Region.
