Edouard François

Paris - The fight against skyscrapers is everywhere, and France is no exception. Protests have also reached the ecological high-rise building located in the heart of Paris. The architect is the office of Edouard François, who won the proposal in 2010. The project seeks to demonstrate that the relationship between high-rise buildings and sustainable design does not have to be mutually exclusive.
This idea, on the contrary, holds great potential for vertical densification of cities without a noticeable loss of greenery. The fifty-meter eco-skyscraper, which is to rise on the bank of the Seine, received building approval at the beginning of this year. The building managed to obtain an exemption because the surrounding development is limited to a height of 37 meters. It will be immediately recognizable from the surrounding buildings as it will be completely covered in greenery. François sees his proposal as a 'sower', where seeds from plants will be carried by the wind to the surroundings, thus assisting in the restoration of biodiversity in the city.
The titanium facade will create a moiré effect, producing a lively and dynamic image of the entire building. The greenery will further enhance the three-dimensional perception of the otherwise flat facade made of zinc and aluminum sheets. Upon completion, the building is set to transform into a tranquil garden nestled in the heart of the city.
