Kladno - Projects for the transformation of the Kladno bus station and the pedestrian zone of T.G. Masaryk are to be completed in the summer. The city aims to carry out both actions in 2018. This will fundamentally change the appearance of the city center, Kladno Mayor Milan Volf (Choice for Kladno) told ČTK. The work will cost tens of millions of crowns; the exact amount will be known after the completion of the documentation.

The Kladno center is expected to be not only more beautiful after the adjustments, but according to the mayor, it will also expand its usability; for example, the bus station will be newly connected to the pedestrian zone. Greenery, water features, benches, and more will be added. "In the proposals for the revitalization of T.G. Masaryk Street, we are fine-tuning details such as the appearance and quality of the paving surface used to make it as durable as possible and at the same time pleasant for walking," Volf stated.

Technically, issues like tree planting are still being resolved. In addition to the pedestrian zone, the area in Colonel Stříbrný Street and Tyršova Street is also set to change.

At the bus station, the city is also adjusting the bus operation organization and adding details related to the requirements for better permeability and accessibility towards the center and the theater, including a barrier-free solution. "In the proposals for the transformation of the space with the bus terminal, the most challenging part is to reach an agreement with the owner of the Lidl department store, primarily to find a suitable interface with Lidl," said Volf.

For passengers, the terminal will be safer and it will also be easier to transfer between different lines and modes of transport. Amenities such as a waiting room, refreshments, bike storage, and P+R parking will not be missing.

The city wants to use European grants for the bus station, but according to Volf, this is not a condition for the project's implementation. Currently, there are no available grants for the pedestrian zone, so the town hall will pay for it from the budget. Kladno announced architectural competitions for the adjustments of both areas last year, and the upcoming projects are based on the best proposals.

The work on the bus station is planned in two phases, the first of which should be completed roughly within a year of the start of the work. The city also wants to divide the renewal of the pedestrian zone in the center into phases, with the first phase expected to be completed during the next year.
