Hradec Králové

Hradec Králové - The representatives of Hradec Králové today refused to pay the construction company Prima 8.5 million crowns for returning the construction site of the unfinished Střezina Art School back to the city. The city is preparing a lawsuit against the company, demanding clearance and handover of the construction site. The payment of 8.5 million crowns was part of a settlement agreement between the city and the company, which the representatives rejected. Only two out of 33 representatives voted in favor of the agreement.

The renovation of Střezina, costing 200 million crowns, began last January, but the work has been delayed by several months, prompting the city hall to terminate the contract with the construction company Prima. The company withdrew from the contract at the end of June, citing poor project documentation provided by the city. The former city leadership proposed that as a part of an amicable termination of the contract, the city would pay the company 8.5 million crowns. Originally, the company requested over 16 million crowns for the work completed and lost profits.

The new city leadership, formed by the coalition of ANO, ODS, and Change for Hradec, attempted to negotiate better terms for the agreement with a lower payment from the city, but was unsuccessful, according to Mayor Alexander Hrabálek (from ODS).

Therefore, the city will now prepare a lawsuit for the clearance and handover of the construction site, according to the city hall secretary Markéta Bartušová. She stated that the work performed has already been paid for by the city. "The construction site needs to be secured against further deterioration of the structures that the construction company began to repair first and are unfinished," said city hall spokesperson Petr Vinklář.

Once the city reclaims the site, it intends to issue a new competition for the renovation of Střezina. For the new tender, the city wants to modify the original project documentation.

The Střezina Art School, which is attended by over 2000 students, has been waiting for its modern building for a quarter of a century. The main part of the project is the reconstruction of the former pavilion-style South Primary School in Slezské Předměstí, where the school already has its main headquarters.
