Hradec Králové - The city of Hradec Králové has launched a major reconstruction and renovation of the Střezina Elementary Art School. The construction, costing 160 million crowns excluding VAT, is currently the main investment project of the city. Builders are currently mainly focused on demolition work. Jindřich Vedlich (TOP 09), the deputy mayor, told ČTK today. The Střezina Art School, which is attended by over 2000 students, has been waiting for its modern building for a quarter of a century.
The main part of the project is the reconstruction of the former pavilion-based South Elementary School in Slezské Předměstí, where the school already has its main headquarters. Builders began in February by renovating the unused building of the former dining hall and kitchen, which will house the visual arts department. Gradually, the builders will renovate other buildings in the area.
The school will not cancel or limit classes due to the renovations. According to the progress of the repairs, it will release individual buildings for renovations and will make more use of its other two facilities on Na Střezině Street and Třebechovická Street for teaching.
The renovation will provide the Střezina Elementary Art School with multifunctional spaces, such as rehearsal rooms for popular music students, a theater hall, and classrooms for the visual arts department. The school's leadership and the city hall plan for the area to become a natural cultural center for the hundred-thousand-strong city.
