Prague - The selection committee will today choose the contractor for the Czech pavilion at the World Expo 2015 in Milan. Nine candidates applied for the competition, but according to CTK information, four were disqualified for failing to meet legal requirements. The theme of the six-month-long World Expo is "Food for the Planet, Energy for Life". The value of the contract is estimated at 60 million crowns according to the tender materials. The Office of the General Commissioner for Czech participation had to repeat the tender process as no one applied in September. Preparations had already been delayed earlier due to the previous government of Petr Nečas (ODS) postponing the decision on participation. There are now approximately one year and five months left until the start of Expo 2015 and thus for preparing the pavilion. Companies participating in the tender are proposing comprehensive solutions for Czech participation. This includes the creation and construction of the pavilion, architectural concept, project documentation, obtaining permits for the creation of the pavilion, implementation of the internal exhibition, operation, and maintenance of the pavilion. The result should be a temporary structure that will be dismantled after the Expo concludes. The six-member selection committee includes architects Eva Jiřičná, David Vávra, and Zdeněk Lukeš, for example. The budget for Czech participation in the exhibition is expected to range from 180 to 210 million crowns, with funds coming not only from the state budget for the first time but also from the private sector. The last Expo 2010 took place in Shanghai, China, where the government allocated around half a billion crowns for it.
