The Urbanism Institute invites you to a workshop by Jany Ndiaye Beránková from Columbia University Concepts and Conceptions: An Introduction to Architectural Theory 1965–1980 which will take place from May 22 to May 26, 2023, from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM at the Faculty of Architecture of ČVUT.

The workshop will provide an introductory insight into the development of architectural theory in the 2nd half of the 20th century, influenced by the ideas of French structuralism and post-structuralism. Each chapter will outline fundamental questions of architectural theory, such as the problem of architectural typology, Rossi's concept of the analogous city, the relationship between architecture and language, criticism of functionalism, the question of symbolism in architecture, and the relationship between architecture and events.

Students, doctoral candidates, lecturers, and students from other faculties are welcome to apply. Participants in the workshop are expected to read and interpret academic texts in English and actively participate in discussions.
