Brno - The South Moravian Region continues to strive for the establishment of a spa center in Pasohlávky in the Brno area, a project that has been referred to as a Czech-Chinese initiative since 2015. Today, representatives of the region signed a memorandum of joint action with the Chinese development company RiseSun in China. This was communicated to ČTK by the Deputy Governor Taťána Malá (ANO). An earlier memorandum between RiseSun and the company Thermal Pasohlávky, owned by the region and the municipality, has expired. According to Malá, a project proposal must be created by the end of September, which will be decided by the council and assembly of the region.
According to previous plans, the spa is to be established for two billion crowns over an area of approximately 20 hectares. The Chinese provincial government, which is the partner province of the region, has entrusted RiseSun with the realization of the investment. "The management of Thermal Pasohlávky did not finalize the project with the Chinese investor and allowed the original memorandum to expire. Were it not for the current changes in the management of Thermal Pasohlávky, the project would likely have to be realized differently and by someone else," Malá stated.
According to her, the new memorandum has been signed directly between the region and RiseSun. "We will continue to negotiate with the representatives of the investor about the form of the project and its further details," Malá said. She is part of the delegation accompanying the President Miloš Zeman on his visit to China, along with the Deputy Governor Roman Hanák (ČSSD). "It cannot be said yet whether it will be successful 100 percent, but we have a new memorandum of joint action. By September 30, Thermal Pasohlávky and RiseSun must submit a project proposal, which the council and assembly of the region will decide whether we will continue. The project has overall political support and also the support of the president," Malá added.
The new memorandum is also praised by former governor Michal Hašek (ČSSD), under whose term the first memorandum was created. "I am glad that the new management has continued our work and will successfully complete the negotiations with the Chinese partner. The regional leadership has my full support and trust in this, as the project will significantly help South Moravian tourism, the travel industry, and employment in the Břeclav region," Hašek stated.
Currently, there are no spas in the designated area of Pasohlávky, but the place is prepared for spa buildings. The region established the company Thermal Pasohlávky with the municipality back in 2007, and the company has been building the necessary infrastructure for the spa zone. However, spa experts have previously indicated that the construction will not be simple. They have identified problems not only with the construction itself but also with labor shortages and pointed to a possible lack of natural resources, which are fundamental for spa activities.
Pasohlávky lies about 30 kilometers south of Brno. It is home to approximately 700 inhabitants. The village is located on the banks of the Nové Mlýny reservoir, and there are hydrothermal sources in its cadastre. Nearby is the protected landscape area of Pálava and the Lednice-Valtice area, which is frequented by tourists.
