Brno - Investors from the Chinese province of Hebei will sign a contract in China on Friday with representatives of Thermal Pasohlávky for the construction of a spa center worth two billion koruna in Pasohlávky near Brno. South Moravian Governor Michal Hašek (ČSSD) told ČTK today. According to him, construction should start in 2018, and if there are no issues, the spa could be completed in 2019. The center is expected to create at least 500 jobs.

Hašek will accompany representatives of Thermal Pasohlávky to China along with Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka (ČSSD). The plan includes the signing of several contracts and agreements, two of which relate to the spa complex. "One will be a memorandum at the level of the government of Hebei province and the South Moravian Region to establish a joint venture for the realization of the center, and the second will be an agreement on the intention to invest in the construction of the spa and recreational center, which will be signed by representatives of Thermal Pasohlávky and the Chinese investor selected by the provincial government," said Hašek.

According to him, the terms of the investment are currently being discussed. "The share of the Chinese side is being addressed, the issue of the Czech side's contribution from Thermal Pasohlávky, but also the future structure of the company’s governing body and a framework schedule of works," Hašek stated. He mentioned that the area will include 12 spa facilities, which will feature, among other things, a rehabilitation institute and traditional Chinese medicine.

The center will be located near the Novomlýnské reservoirs. "Overall, it is expected to accommodate up to 2000 guests. The construction will bring at least 500 jobs, with the most optimistic scenario being 700 workers," the governor added.

The site is prepared for spa facilities, but there are currently none. The region and the municipality established the company Thermal Pasohlávky back in 2007. The company has built the necessary infrastructure for the spa zone on several dozen hectares. However, spa experts are skeptical about the establishment of a large center. They indicate that the problem will not only be the construction itself but primarily the lack of labor. Possible shortages of natural resources, which are essential for the operation of spa services, are also highlighted as an issue.

Pasohlávky is located about 30 kilometers south of Brno in the Dyje-Svratka valley and has a population of 700. The municipality is situated on the banks of the Nové Mlýny reservoir, and significant hydrothermal sources needed for spa services are located in its cadastral area. Nearby is the protected landscape area of Pálava and the Lednice-Valtice area. The surroundings are therefore widely visited by tourists.
