Brno - The Brno-střed district has begun the reconstruction of the former grocery store at Zelný trh. A covered market is expected to be created there for 46 million crowns by the end of this year, stated the spokesperson of the district, Denisa Kapitančiková, in a press release. Once completed, dozens of vendors will be able to offer their goods inside.

The idea of the project is to encompass the market building as a whole and present it as an integral part of the square, which has been reconstructed in recent years. "We want to intentionally connect all floors of the building and surrounding areas so that visitors can utilize the services of all involved entities on various floors of the house," said Kapitančiková.

According to her, there should be a jazz café called Pod Obrazy on the ground floor as well as a local bakery with a fresh bistro. "It will be possible to buy freshly baked goods that will either be produced and baked on-site and will not be delivered to the store," added Kapitančiková, noting that a supervised children's center will also be part of it.

On the first and second floors, there will be space for vendors where visitors can purchase fresh food. "There will be vegetables, fruits, cheeses, meats, and sausages. The first floor will focus on a selection for the general public, while the second floor will be dedicated to delicacies and gourmet treats such as fish, wine, foreign cheeses, and similar items," the spokesperson enumerated.

Currently, the entire Zelný trh square operates as a marketplace. In the open space, vendors sell their wares, with over a hundred spots designated in the square. After the opening of the covered market, it will be possible to sell at the square both in summer and winter.
