Nový Bor

New Bor - The construction of a new outdoor swimming pool is being prepared in New Bor in the Česká Lípa district, with project costs estimated by designers at 120 million crowns. A 25-meter swimming pool and a children's pool with water features and
facilities are set to be built in the area of the natural swimming area. If everything goes well and the representatives support the project, construction could begin at the end of next year. Subsequently, the remaining part of the area with the natural swimming pool should also be modernized. This will be preceded by an architectural competition, said today CTK spokeswoman Radmila Pokorná.

The lands in the swimming area previously belonged to TJ Jiskra Nový Bor, but the organization transferred them to the city in 2021. "Our effort is to move the Nový Bor swimming pool from the early 20th century, where only essential modifications were made for decades, into the 21st century. Along with other projects that we are preparing in the nearby area, such as the continuation of the cycling path to Česká Lípa, Nový Bor Amazonia, or workout and children's playgrounds, we could significantly revitalize this part of the city," added Mayor Jaromír Dvořák (Mayors for the Liberec Region).

In Nový Bor, there is a natural swimming pool with a concrete basin measuring 100 by 120 meters and a depth of up to two meters; it has sandy and grassy beaches and is part of a campsite. There is a slide, a beach volleyball court, and a children's playground. Facilities include changing rooms, showers, toilets, and refreshments, and entry is free. However, it no longer meets current requirements, according to the mayor. "We do not have a problem with water quality, but people simply do not enter water that is murky, even if it is healthy," Dvořák noted.

The decision to build a new swimming pool was made by the city's residents in a public poll in 2019. Due to the financial demands and the preservation of swimming options, the area should be modernized in stages. The first phase plans to build a stainless steel multipurpose pool with three 25-meter lanes, a slide or a toboggan, and a separate wading pool for the smallest children. "There should also be two facilities at the entrance to the area," said the head of the development department, Jan Toms. The larger facility will include a ticket office, toilets, and showers, with staff and technology facilities, while the smaller one will have changing cabins, toilets, and showers.

In the second phase, the city wants to transform the original swimming area into a biotope. As the fifth largest city in the Liberec region, how the construction will be financed is not yet decided. "If we find a suitable grant title, we will submit an application, but we are willing to finance part of the construction from the city budget and take out a loan for part of it. The city currently has no loan," added Dvořák. The first works in the area will begin this year, as the city will build a new sewage system for 1.3 million crowns, since the original one is in a state of disrepair.
