Prague – The residents of Prague can propose where to place new chairs and tables in public spaces. They can send their suggestions to the municipal organization Creative Prague by January 20. Vít Hofman, the spokesman for the city hall, stated this today. The aim of the project is to expand the possibilities for relaxation in the city and to revitalize selected places. Chairs and tables first appeared in the streets and squares at the initiative of the city hall in 2016. In the last season, they were located in 86 places.

"The Prague chairs and tables are a unique and popular project in public space. Since their inception, they have enjoyed great popularity, and interest has been rising sharply each year. The furniture is not only in the historical center, but residents can also use it in housing estates and outside the central parts of the city," said Prague councilor Hana Třeštíková (Prague For Themselves).

The chairs and tables can be found in the streets, squares, parks, or in cultural and community spaces. In some places, they have been complemented with loungers, as is the case at the St. Agnes Monastery or Štvanice Island. A novelty in the last season was winter operations. In some locations, the chairs have remained so far, and this will continue.

The project was approved by the former city leadership in 2015, and subsequently, the chairs and tables were tested in a few initial locations. Over time, their number expanded. For example, in the 2018 season, there were 1,558 chairs and 393 tables, and their number later increased to 2,300 chairs and 600 tables.
