Brno - The construction of the new tallest building in Brno and the entire Czech Republic, AZ Tower, will begin in the second half of April. It will cost 800 million crowns excluding VAT. It is expected to be completed by May 2013. The skyscraper will be 109.5 meters tall and will be located near the city center. Petr Teplý from PROPERITY s.r.o. stated this to ČTK.
Currently, the tallest building in the country is City Tower in Prague's Pankrác, which measures 109 meters.
The AZ Tower in Brno will have shops and offices, with the upper floors of the building designated for luxury apartments. According to Teplý, the investor's aim is not to surpass any of the tall buildings in Brno or the Czech Republic. "Rather, we are trying to create a project with a unique low-energy operation, utilized technologies, and materials. The building will also be unique in its architectural shape and design," Teplý believes.
The skyscraper, whose visualization can be seen on the PROPERITY company's website, will be built by PSJ from Jihlava. The construction will be co-financed by UniCredit Bank, a.s. The investor of the construction is eTower, a.s., and the engineering work will be provided by AZ Properity, s.r.o. Preparatory work has already begun on-site, primarily involving site preparation and construction setup.
The location where the investor plans to build is very attractive. A sixty-meter M Palace already stands among the tall buildings there. CTP Invest renewed the construction of an office building last year at its Spielberk Office Centre, which was supposed to be the tallest in Brno at 85 meters. However, the AZ Tower will surpass it upon completion.
The question is how long it will hold the title of the tallest building. Architect Eva Jiřičná proposed a 117-meter skyscraper for the broader center of Brno and the investor HS-Investment; it is expected to cost 3.5 billion crowns. So far, only the project has been completed.
The investor of AZ Tower also considered a taller building. "If the flight corridor allowed us, we would definitely have built a taller building, but unfortunately, that was not possible. I don't know what the plans are for Mrs. Jiřičná's skyscraper, but her project is just a study, and it will certainly take a long time to obtain all the necessary permits for its realization," Teplý stated.
The processing of the zoning and building permit for AZ Tower, according to him, dragged on since 2006, and the building permit became legally valid only in November 2010.
