Prague - The original glass cladding will remain at the Jinonice metro station after the repairs, announced today in a press release by the Public Transport Company of the Capital City of Prague (DPP). Before the start of the work, it was unclear whether the glass shapes by academic sculptor František Vízner would be damaged during their removal from the walls. The station on line B will be closed to passengers for seven months next year. "The dismantling of the glass shapes is currently going smoothly, which was the biggest unknown before the work began. The shapes can be removed from the supporting structures without damaging their locks and will therefore be able to be reinstalled after the work is completed," said Deputy Mayor for Transport Petr Dolínek (ČSSD). The information about the possible replacement of the bronze-colored glass shapes with metal cladding was reported by the newspaper Aktuálně.cz.
The station needs repairs due to water leaks. These damage the supporting system of the cladding and water also seeps onto it. After being removed from the walls, they will need to be cleaned. There will also be a strip of painted glass with the name of the station in the new design. The saved cladding will replace damaged ones and create a reserve for future repairs.
The current work does not affect the operation of the station. It will be closed to passengers from January 7 to August 7 next year. Then work will continue in the technical areas of the station, with repairs expected to be completed by November 17 next year.
