Brno - Brno will make the gardens of the neighboring Tugendhat and Löw-Beer villas accessible, which are separated by a fence. This was approved today by the city council. Next year, a turnstile will be installed between the gardens. The city will allocate two million crowns for the project. Tugendhat belongs to Brno, while the Löw-Beer villa belongs to the region.

The proposal was supported by 44 councilors, no one opposed it, and no one abstained. The turnstile will allow one-way passage from the upper Tugendhat villa towards the lower Löw-Beer villa. In the future, two-way passage should also be possible. The investment includes the preparation of project documentation, the installation of the turnstile, as well as new gates, fence repairs, a camera system, and other things. "This year, a part in the Löw-Beer villa is to be realized, and next year in the Tugendhat villa," said the mayor's deputy Matěj Hollan (Žít Brno), responsible for culture.

Both the city and the region have previously renovated the villas. The fence separates the gardens due to different grant titles from which they drew money for repairs. The renovation of the Löw-Beer villa cost the South Moravian Region about 60 million crowns, while repairs at Tugendhat have amounted to around 200 million crowns in recent years.

The Löw-Beers were a significant Jewish industrial family. In 1913, Alfred Löw-Beer purchased an Art Nouveau house with an extensive plot in Brno, now known as the Löw-Beer villa. Later, in the upper part of the plot, his daughter Greta had the Tugendhat villa built with her husband Fritz Tugendhat, right above her parents' villa. It was designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in 1928.
