Brno - The increase in capacity of the Brno arena, where the local extraleague team Kometa plays its home games, by approximately 500 seats has been postponed. The arena manager, the city company Starez-Sport, canceled the public tender because none of the applicants met the submission requirements, ČTK learned from the Public Procurement Bulletin. The director of Starez, Martin Mikš, told ČTK that it is still possible to complete the work for 9.4 million before the start of the next hockey season, which begins in September.

Now Starez must reissue the tender. "We need to reach out to the companies that we excluded for formal reasons again," said Mikš. According to the tender documents, the arena was supposed to be handed over to the selected construction company on May 1, and everything was to be completed by mid-July, with the occupancy permit expected no later than the end of July.
"There is time reserve in this, we can still make it. I don't want to speculate yet on when we can start at the earliest, and what would happen if the construction were to be delayed to a time when games are already scheduled," Mikš said. The extraleague starts in September, but preparation matches are already being played in August.
The project to expand the capacity from the current 7,200 seats was prepared by the hockey club, and the city council approved funds for the renovation a year ago. The matches are mostly sold out, and there are many fans who cannot attend the hockey games. The arena also hosts concerts and various cultural events. An increase in capacity would bring more profit from ticket sales to the club and event organizers. The arena underwent a complete renovation during operation six years ago, with the city spending about 400 million crowns on it.
