Hradec Králové – The representatives of Hradec Králové today approved the intention to sell two historically protected houses in the historic center. The city has no use for the properties. These are the Renaissance Cejp Palace and the former city library. Both buildings are adjacent to each other and are interconnected inside. Therefore, the city would prefer that one buyer purchase both of them. The city anticipates that the tender for the sale could be announced in the fall, its representatives stated.

The actual sale would then be in the hands of the city leadership emerging from the municipal elections in October.

The Neo-Baroque corner building on Tomkova Street dates back to the early 20th century, and housed the city library from 1939 to 2013. Before that, the building with the characteristic turret was home to the Reserve Credit Institution, later also the Industrial Bank and the tax office.

The second building is originally a Gothic house with a red façade on Dlouhá Street, which has undergone several renovations. According to a previous resolution of the city, Cejp Palace should be sold for at least 30 million crowns.

Earlier, the city conducted so-called preliminary market consultations with potential buyers. According to the city representatives, the buyers intend to turn the house on Dlouhá Street into student housing, while they want to use the house on Tomkova Street for cultural purposes.

According to the city hall, these are unique buildings in a strategic location in the historic center of the city between the Great Square and the main stage of Klicpera Theatre. However, the houses need an expensive reconstruction; the last renovation took place in the second half of the 1980s.
