Hranice - Hranice na Přerovsku are likely to see a modern transportation terminal that will connect high-speed and regular railways with bus transport. The transfer hub, which will be part of the new railway connection Prague–Brno–Ostrava, is expected to take on a new form based on an architectural competition announced by the Railway Administration (SŽ). This was announced today by the administration's spokesperson, Nela Eberl Friebová. Significant changes are expected not only for the current station but also for the entire surrounding area.
"The project section of the competition proposal will include the terminal building, which will serve both the train and bus stations. It will also comprise accesses to the platforms and parking. At the adjacent bus station, architects will address the platform and its roofing, as well as charging spots for buses and their parking. They will also define the shape of the public space and greenery around the terminal," said the SŽ spokesperson.
The competition also includes an ideational part, focusing on the broader surroundings of the terminal, including the area between the station and the planned Hranice bypass. "The goal is to naturally connect the new station with the city, identify further potential in the area, and prepare for its future development," added Friebová.
The competition has been announced as anonymous, one-phase, and open. Its participants are tasked with developing an architectural-urban design for the new terminal in Hranice na Moravě and related structures. According to representatives of SŽ, these constructions will be coordinated with the section of the high-speed railroad VRT Moravská brána, connecting Brodek u Přerova with Ostrava. This is the fourth architectural competition related to high-speed rail for SŽ.
According to the feasibility study, the capacity of the terminal is expected to approach 10,000 passengers on weekdays by 2050. Thanks to the strategic location of the terminal instead of the existing station building, high-speed and conventional railways will connect with bus transport under one roof. Passengers will thus be able to easily transfer to a train, for example, to Valašské Meziříčí and further to Slovakia. This concept will significantly improve the mobility of residents in the Olomouc and Moravian-Silesian regions, the SŽ representatives added.
