Chodov - The city of Chodov wants to better adapt its panel housing estates in the coming years to the ways people live today. Improvements should be made to parking, transportation, and pedestrian paths, as well as street furniture, so that people have more opportunities to meet. The adjustments will concern areas around Tovární, Husova, U Koupaliště, and ČSO streets. Chodov's mayor, Patrik Pizinger (HNHRM), told reporters today.

"Now we would like to divide the whole matter into stages over the next four years. We want to start with the housing estate around Tovární street, where, first of all, we need to solve the stormwater drainage this year. Every time there is heavy rain, we have a problem with elevator shafts, basements, and similar areas getting flooded," Pizinger said. The city has allocated three million crowns for this in this year's budget. For further modifications, the city aims to complete the project documentation this year, with actual implementation planned for 2019.

Around Tovární street, the city wants to remove some unused sidewalks after discussions with the residents of the estate, for example. Conversely, a gazebo for seniors to sit in and greenery should be added. The housing estate could also be connected to the city center by a new footbridge over the Chodovský brook near the building on Dukelských hrdinů street, which will begin reconstruction for the needs of the arts school.

In the following years, changes are expected on Husova, 9. května, and Jiráskova streets. The city leadership has already discussed the future form of the estate with citizens there as well. A fundamental change for Chodov will be the improvements to the estate U Koupaliště, where, in addition to a promenade and resting areas, a parking lot for 150 cars will be created. The city must also solve transportation issues in the densely populated ČSO estate. Everything should be completed by the year 2022.

Investments in panel housing estates are seen by Chodov's leadership as the next phase after the city made significant investments in sports development and later in schools and kindergartens in previous years. In the town of thirteen thousand, the expansion of Komenského elementary school was completed last year for almost 40 million crowns.
