Mariánské Lázně - In Mariánské Lázně, located in the Cheb region, plans are underway to construct a new town hall building. All departments currently spread throughout the town are expected to relocate there. The current building in the center of Mariánské Lázně is no longer adequate for the office's needs. The town intends to convert it into a community center, which could become the hub of social life, Mayor Martin Hurajčík (ANO) informed ČTK. The cost of constructing the new town hall will only be revealed by the project.
"Given that this town hall building is very energy-intensive, not barrier-free, and already unsuitable for officials and clients, we would like to create a new office that will be low-energy and friendly both to officials and to all visitors," said Hurajčík. All departments currently located at six different sites in the town should move to the new town hall. In addition to the office, the building is planned to include a post office and a bank.
The new building could be situated near the central parking lot, which would provide sufficient parking capacity. The location is also well accessible from the housing estates where the majority of residents live. The bus and train stations are nearby. The city has a completed study for the construction.
At the same time, the city leadership is preparing for the use of the original historic town hall building from the 19th century. They have commissioned project documentation for its reconstruction. The building is in poor condition, affected by dry rot, and some ceilings have already begun to sag. Due to the high costs of saving the building, the city leaders intend to apply for subsidies. The renovation of the town hall could cost hundreds of millions of crowns.
After reconstruction, the building could serve as a municipal house with exhibition spaces, a multifunctional hall, or offices. It could also provide facilities for the Mariánské Lázně symphony orchestra and various organizations or associations. Certain spaces should also be designated for a museum and a library.
