Prague - The Ministry for Regional Development will ultimately suspend the validity of Prague's building regulations. It will do so with a letter that it will send to Prague by the end of January. In the program "Twenty Minutes" on Radiožurnál, Minister Karla Šlechtová (for ANO) stated this today on Czech Radio. According to Deputy Mayor Matěj Stropnický (Trojan Coalition), Prague will prepare an amendment to the regulations. Stropnický told ČTK that it could be completed by summer. Until then, a general ordinance will apply in Prague. Just like today, in December, the minister argued that Prague did not provide sufficient guarantees that it would address the criticisms that the ministry had against the regulations. The letter with the information about the cancellation of the regulations was supposed to arrive in Prague on December 23. The day before, however, the ministry informed that Prague could turn the situation around by sending a letter with a promise of correction. In the end, both Mayor Adriana Krnáčová (ANO) and Stropnický sent the letter at the last minute, but each had different content. Krnáčová admitted Prague's mistake in her letter, while Stropnický asked for more time to resolve the situation. The building regulations, which are implementing regulations to the Building Act, were approved last summer by the previous city council led by then-Mayor Tomáš Hudeček. Even before they came into effect in October, they sparked a heated debate. The billboard lobby organized a strong media campaign against them, as it disagreed with the advertising regulations introduced by the regulations. The ministry subsequently came up with comments and requested adjustments to the regulations from Prague. The city's leadership stated that it could not meet the ministry's requests within the legal deadlines. The ministry then threatened to suspend the effectiveness of the regulations. Thus, generally applicable regulations would come into effect, which, according to some, would allow, among other things, the development of green areas in residential areas, the expansion of the number of billboards, and the introduction of advertising in the heritage reserve. Prague councillors declared in a December resolution that they would defend against the cancellation of the regulations legally.
