Prague - Prague has requested the Ministry for Regional Development (MMR) for a period of at least 200 days to address comments on building regulations. It wants the new regulations to remain valid for now so that Prague does not have to adhere to general building decrees. This is evident from a letter sent by Deputy Mayor Matěj Stropnický (SZ) to the MMR. However, according to the ministry's statement, Mayor Adriana Krnáčová (ANO) also informed Minister Karel Šlechtová that the capital city understands the suspension of regulations. The regulations have been valid since October of this year, prepared by the council under the leadership of former Mayor Tomáš Hudeček (TOP 09). According to MMR spokesperson Karel Dlabač, the minister received a statement from the mayor on Monday evening. "In light of the expired deadline mentioned in the call for rectification, the City of Prague (HMP) understands that MMR has no other option but to suspend the effectiveness of the Prague Building Regulations (PSP)," the spokesperson quoted the mayor's statement. Deputy Stropnický also requested on Monday that the regulations remain in effect. "I request you, Mr. Deputy, to keep the Prague Building Regulations in effect and to provide the City of Prague with a 200-day period within which I commit to properly address all comments from the Ministry for Regional Development, including the notification request to the European Commission in accordance with the laws," Stropnický writes to MMR Deputy Ondřej Votruba. According to Stropnický, it was not possible to address all comments within the sixty-day period granted to Prague by MMR because the city's leadership changed, and only the European Commission has 90 days for notification. If the ministry complies with Prague's request, the amendment will be discussed with the departments of the magistrate, individual city districts, and incoming comments will be incorporated during the following 200 days, in addition to obtaining European notification. Minister Karel Šlechtová (ANO) stated last Wednesday after a meeting with Mayor Adriana Krnáčová (ANO) that on December 23, she would suspend the effectiveness of the regulations until Prague develops new ones. The minister did not inform journalists about the date for a possible appeal at that time. On Monday, the ministry stated that Prague has the opportunity to reverse the situation by promising rectification. The building regulations, which are an implementing regulation to the Building Act, were approved last summer by the previous city council under the leadership of then-mayor Tomáš Hudeček. Before they came into effect in October, they sparked a heated debate. The billboard lobby launched a strong media campaign against them because it disagreed with the advertising regulations introduced by the regulations. The ministry subsequently came up with comments and requested amendments to the regulations from Prague.
