Prague - According to Deputy Mayor Matěj Stropnický (Troika), the preparation of the amendment to the Prague building regulations will take about six months. In January, he will present the council with the assignment for the amendment, including a timeline, he said today in an interview with ČTK. The Ministry for Regional Development (MMR) has decided to abolish the current regulations by the end of January. The actual preparation of the amendment will take a month from the council's decision, according to the deputy. Another month will be needed for input from the city districts. The subsequent notification to the European Commission, which MMR requests, will take three months. Former Mayor Tomáš Hudeček, under whose leadership the council approved the current regulations, has repeatedly stated in the past that Prague will "not accomplish anything at all" in six months. Until the amendment comes into effect, general building regulations will apply in Prague, as in other cities. The Prague building regulations are an implementing regulation to the building law. Even before they came into force in October, they sparked a heated debate. The billboard lobby initiated a strong media campaign against them because they disagreed with the advertising regulations introduced by the regulations. On the contrary, architects and developers welcomed the change. The ministry subsequently provided comments and, under the threat of abolishing the regulations, demanded their modification. However, the city stated that it could not comply with the ministry's requests within the statutory deadlines. At the moment the ministry abolishes the Prague regulations, it will enable, according to some, among other things, the construction of green spaces in Prague's housing estates, the increase in the number of billboards, and the introduction of advertising in heritage conservation areas. According to Stropnický, the city leadership will oppose such cases as a party in the proceedings. At the same time, Prague councillors declared in a December resolution that they would legally oppose MMR's actions. The city will decide on further steps only when MMR abolishes the regulations, the deputy said.
