Brno - The last of the fourteen sculptures of this year's Brno Art Open exhibition, also known as Sculptures in the Streets, was presented to the public this afternoon. The object named Block by academic sculptor Martin Zet can best be seen by people who arrived in Brno by train or are planning to leave from there. It stands on a meadow near the lower train station.
"Martin Zet places his object in the forecourt of the lower train station in Brno. The question of the location of the Brno main train station, a matter debated for nearly a hundred years, has long since frozen in a catatonic state, and the dilemma of relocating it from the city center to the periphery now seems unsolvable," stated Anna Saavedra from the House of Art on behalf of the organizers.
The work takes the form of a huge concrete block standing on a green meadow, serving as a symbolic cornerstone for the future possible development of the so-called Southern Center.
This year's Brno Art Open brings a total of 14 objects to the streets of Brno. In most cases, these are not sculptures in the layman's sense of the word but rather interventions in public space, such as unusual paving or a wooden observation point on a café roof.
The symbol of this year is the sculpture by Sylva Lacinová (1923 to 2019), which previously adorned the facade of the Faculty of Informatics. However, after a complete renovation, there was no space left for it. Until August, interested viewers can see it in front of the entrance to the House of Art. They can view it up close and touch its copper surface.
The sculptures will remain in the streets of Brno until August 11.
