Prague - The company Vítězné náměstí, which is part of the PPF Real Estate group, is likely to halt preparations for the construction of a multifunctional building in Dejvice nicknamed the Polar Bear. The Municipal Court in Prague granted the complaint of opponents and canceled the amendment to the zoning plan. Therefore, the City Hall will probably revoke the already issued zoning decision, writes Mladá fronta Dnes (MfD). The location of the building at Vítězné náměstí in Prague 6 has been discussed for several months. The proposal by architect Radan Hubička has evoked mixed reactions from the public and experts, as is often the case with unconventional architecture. The Polar Bear originally obtained an exemption from the zoning plan. The construction would not fit within the limitations that apply to Vítězné náměstí due to its planned scope. However, two residents from the surrounding properties filed a lawsuit against the granting of the exemption, and the court ruled in their favor. Although the City Hall issued the zoning decision last November, it has not yet been valid. The decision of the court was awaited. Now, according to experts, the city district leadership has two options. They can either completely revoke the zoning decision or appeal the ruling with a cassation complaint. "This case is not unique. The City Hall usually files cassation complaints,” said City Hall spokesperson Petra Hrubá to the newspaper. The company Vítězné náměstí has not yet commented on whether it will redesign the project. The building, which people have begun to nickname the Polar Bear, is intended to complete the still-open block of houses at Vítězné náměstí. It would fundamentally change the appearance of the square. The investor claims that alongside administrative areas, the construction will also bring new civic facilities, including plans for a café, smaller shops, and other services. Last year, the proposal was awarded as the best architectural project in the prestigious Building of the Year competition.
