Prague - The leadership of Prague 6 is finalizing the preparation of materials for the announcement of an urban and transport competition, which will determine the future appearance of the Victory Square. The main city council must approve the project, and the competition will be officially announced in the autumn. This was stated by Martin Churavý, the spokesperson for the municipal district, in response to a query from ČTK. Experts should primarily address the deteriorating traffic situation associated with the opening of the Blanka Tunnel.
Mayor Ondřej Kolář (TOP 09) previously stated that one of the most serious problems is the non-functional traffic intersection where cars meet pedestrians. The tram stop is poorly located as are the metro exits. The situation has significantly worsened since the opening of the Blanka Tunnel last year. According to the city hall, the condition of the square is lamentable.
"In 2020, it will be exactly 100 years since the famous architect Engel won the urban planning competition for the regulation of Dejvice and Bubeneč. It would be great to give Victory Square a new form a hundred years after its symbolic creation," said Deputy Mayor Martin Polách (ANO).
In addition to traffic modifications, architects should grapple with the completion of buildings and the overall construction finishing of the Victory Square perimeter. This also concerns the controversial project Polar Bear, which the company PPF Real Estate wanted to build in the gap in the square. The city hall and the company are in court over the construction, which local residents protested against. In recent months, the appearance of Victory Square has been transformed by the construction of the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics (CIIRC) for 1.18 billion crowns, rising on Jugoslávských partyzánů street.
