Semily - The Semily city council will begin the first phase of the revitalization of the housing estate V Řekách after the holidays. After three years, it has managed to obtain a grant from the Ministry of Regional Development for the transformation of the largest housing estate in the city, which has a population of three thousand. The state will contribute six million crowns for the regeneration of the panel housing, and the city will add 2.5 million crowns from its budget. This was stated by Mayor Jan Farský. Initially, Bavlnářská Street will be repaired, the road will receive a new surface, new sidewalks will be created, and 82 parking spaces will be established. “However, we will probably lose about 20 mature plane trees that are approximately 50 years old, but we will plant at least the same number of trees elsewhere,” the mayor added. Although people know about the tree felling in advance, according to Farský, it will not be without complaints. In the city's surveys about what people want the most, greenery and parking spaces always come out on top. “However, both demands do not go together,” the mayor noted, adding that the housing estate does not suffer from a lack of greenery and many trees need to be pruned. The city will also create an asphalt surface on the connector along the Jizera River to Bitouchov. In the future, this will create a loop of about two kilometers around the housing estate for inline skaters. The regeneration of the V Řekách housing estate, built nearly 30 years ago, is divided into eight phases. The total cost is expected to be at least 130 million crowns. Parking problems will disappear only with the construction of a parking garage, which should appear in V Řekách at the end of the major transformation. It will cost 41 million crowns and will create 135 parking spaces. In addition to repairing roads and sidewalks, the city wants to invest in the insulation of panel houses and window replacement. The continuation of the revitalization of the housing estate depends on whether the city manages to obtain state support again in the coming years.
