Prague - Prague will start designing the metro line D section from Pankrác to náměstí Míru and will announce an architectural competition for its two stations. At the same time, it will begin work on the study for the last section of the new line from náměstí Míru to náměstí Republiky. On Thursday before midnight, city councilors approved this along with other tasks at the urging of the opposition party Prague Sobě. According to the current schedule, the construction of the metro at náměstí Míru could begin in 2036, while the city has already started building the section between Pankrác and Písnice.

Currently, the Prague transport company has been constructing the first part of the metro from Pankrác to Olbrachtova since 2022. Construction of the following section from Olbrachtova to Nové Dvory was supposed to begin, but due to delays caused by objections at the antimonopoly office, preparations have been significantly delayed. Additionally, a section from Nové Dvory to Písnice Depot will be built.

The original estimate for completing the entire section from Pankrác to Písnice was 2029; however, due to disputes, it will likely be postponed, and operational launch is expected in 2031. After that, the city plans to build a section from Pankrác to náměstí Míru, for which, according to today's resolution, project preparation should begin by the end of this year, as well as the announcement of architectural competitions for the stations Náměstí Bratří Synků and Náměstí Míru. Similarly, work on the feasibility study for the last section at náměstí Republiky should also begin by the end of the year.

The approved resolution also includes other tasks for city leadership. It must verify the acceleration of the city ring road completion schedule so that at least the above-ground sections can start being built as soon as the city obtains a building permit, which is expected in 2027. The current plan is to start construction only in 2030.

City councilors are also to explore the possibility of starting the construction of the Hloubětín Tunnel next year, which is supposed to transfer cars underground from a part of Kbelské street in the northeast of the city. According to Deputy Mayor Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates), the magistrate plans to obtain a building permit next year. "I do not understand that we should obtain the approval of the intention next year and only two years later select a contractor and start construction," said the chairman of Prague Sobě, Adam Scheinherr.
