It was the year 1977 when, during a brainstorming session at the Swedish company Perstorp – later renamed Pergo – the idea of creating a laminate floor was born. Three years later, it was launched on the market, and today, after forty-five years, it has become an integral part not only of the mentioned company's portfolio but also of the entire flooring industry.
The Pergo laminate floor has come a long way since its inception. In 1994, just two years after it began to be used in the commercial sector, it was introduced in the United States, and a year later in Asia. In the same year (1995), a technology was developed to ensure the floor's resistance to mechanical damage (such as scratching and impact), now presented under the name TitanX. At the beginning of the new millennium, in 2001, Pergo introduced another significant innovation, namely a patented locking system, while simultaneously giving the surface of laminate floors a relief, thereby making their appearance even closer to that of wood. In 2010, there was a significant acceleration and simplification of the installation of laminate floors, thanks to a technology called PerfectFold.
Three years later, the brand Pergo has a new owner, the company Mohawk Industries, the largest flooring manufacturer in the world with representation in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia, and the Pergo portfolio expands to include wooden and vinyl floors in natural decors. Whether vinyl or laminate, their surface can boast a completely authentic, extraordinarily realistic texture, achieved through the innovative "graphic relief" technique, perfectly reproducing the deep grooves of wood. To enhance the impression of a natural appearance, some types of flooring are given a matte finish. In addition to wooden decors, Pergo's current offerings also include floors that faithfully imitate stone.
The game-changing technology that has completely transformed the functionality of laminate flooring can unequivocally be identified as the water-repellent surface layer AquaSafe. This, combined with the aforementioned locking joint and pressed grooves, provides the flooring with unique properties that allow the covering to maintain its shape even in humid environments (bathrooms, kitchens), without undergoing deformation.
Pergo products are manufactured by the flooring division of the Belgian company Unilin. Thanks to the strength of the parent companies, Pergo is a reliable partner on a global scale while continuing to focus on innovation, performance, and durability, upon which this brand is built. Additionally, the company's commitment to sustainability is evident. Pergo became the first flooring manufacturer to receive an official environmental label from the Nordic Ecolabel organization (Green Swan), and through the mentioned parent company Unilin, Pergo is also the first company to receive the European Ecolabel for laminate floors along with other certifications confirming compliance with quality requirements.
