Ostrava – The city of Ostrava wants to sell land on Seidler's embankment in Silesian Ostrava. Councilors today approved the intention to sell real estate with an area of 3,528 square meters. According to the city, a minimum four-star hotel should be built on the embankment. Organizers of major events often point out that there is a lack of higher-category hotel capacities in the regional city. This was stated to reporters by Deputy Mayor Lucie Baránková Vilamová (ANO).
"The intention stems from long-term efforts to build a residence or hotel on Seidler's embankment. The city’s spatial planning and architecture studio has previously identified this area as suitable for new accommodation capacities. Over the past two years, we have been intensively working to bring a new hotel to the city. We know from analyses that Ostrava lacks a four-star hotel and higher, which is in high demand especially during major events. We know that it would be viable here," said the deputy mayor.
The intention established basic conditions for the sale. An interested party will have to submit not only a price offer but also a schedule and financing for the construction. They will also have to commit to announcing an architectural competition.
The area on the embankment of the Ostravice River, in close proximity to the historical core of the city, has extraordinary potential according to Deputy Mayor Jiří Vávra (ANO). He reminded that the embankment is also an important relaxation zone. Therefore, the proposal for new development should also take this function into account, as well as the movement of pedestrians and cyclists along the river.
"The location has its limits in terms of technical infrastructure, main sewage systems, height differences in the area, or connectivity to surrounding developments. An underground parking lot seems ideal, the access and exit roads of which need to be coordinated with the bus stop or pedestrian footbridge," added Vávra.
According to the deputy mayor, Silesian Ostrava has already investigated potential interest in building a hotel on Seidler's embankment. "In the past, there was consideration of a judicial complex in the area, but the area of the former Bauhaus hobby market, which is now demolished, will be more suitable for that," said Baránková Vilamová. According to her, the city prefers a hotel; however, if it is not possible to find an interested party or if they do not meet the city’s expectations, it is not ruled out that, in the future, apartments could be built in that location.
