Baptism of the book dedicated to the practical and theoretical activities of the Brno architect Jan Dvořák, who operated mainly in the 1970s and 1980s, will take place on Friday, March 8, 2019, at the cultural space PRAHA, Husova 18, Brno.
The book traces the fate of normalization architecture today through the example of architect Jan Dvořák and the relationship of contemporary professionals and the general public to the original works created during a different political regime. The book follows on from the exhibition project of the same name, which was held in the spring of 2017 at Špilberk Castle, Villa Tugendhat, and the cultural space PRAHA / Forum for Architecture and Media.
The authors of the book, architectural historian Šárka Svobodová (4AM, FaVU) and graphic designer Jozef Ondrík (Studio Deep Throat), will speak about the book's concept at the launch. Other co-authors who have confirmed their attendance include photographer Zdeněk Porcal (Studio Flusser), architect Jaroslav Sedlák (4AM, Fa VUT), and artists Jakub Roček and Petr Jambor.
The book was published by the Faculty of Fine Arts at VUT in Brno and 4AM/Forum for Architecture and Media. The publication is the result of the project Specific University Research, "Images in Motion – Research of Contemporary Art and Architecture".
