Brno - A modern football stadium for 1. FC Brno will begin construction in April 2009. It is expected to be completed in July 2011, according to a study published on the website of the South Moravian Regional Office. The new stadium will arise from the reconstruction of the existing dilapidated structure at Lužánky. Following the renovation, it will accommodate 30,000 spectators. The stadium, which should meet UEFA and FIFA standards, will cost 1.9 billion crowns. Half will be paid by the city of Brno, while the other half will be requested from the state.
A new football arena will be built in the shape of an ellipse. For example, the stands will be constructed in two tiers, with 16 stairways leading up to them. All stands will have seating only and will be covered. For matches, a natural, heated, and irrigated grass pitch will be prepared, alongside a training field.
The project details other facilities as well - the layout of changing rooms, showers, spaces for referees, or a room for doping tests. Attention was also paid to refreshments - for instance, in the kitchen on the second floor, chefs will be able to prepare 600 main dishes per day. "In total, 75 employees will be fully operational within the stadium's construction, and during sporting events, stadium staff will amount to about 300 people," the document states.
Directly at the stadium, 750 cars will be able to park - spaces will be located directly under the stands. Fans will also be able to park in the vicinity, such as at the nearby shopping center. Altogether, there should be nearly 1600 parking spots at the stadium.
Brno's top league footballers have been playing in recent years at the stadium on Srbská. The Lužánecký complex, where the then Zbrojovka Brno claimed the title nearly 30 years ago and which holds the record for attendance in the Czech league, does not meet current requirements. The stadium is in overall poor condition.
