Jihlava - The Vysočina Region is preparing a cultural program for this year that could appeal to Austrians. The exhibition Silenced Modernity/Illusions and Dreams at the Vysočina Regional Gallery in Jihlava will showcase around 150 works by top authors of Central European creation from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. At the end of summer, a documentary about the Brtnice native Josef Hoffmann will be premiered, who ranks among the most significant world architects and designers of the first half of the 20th century.

"We were inspired by the Lower Austrian Regional Exhibition," said Governor Jiří Běhounek to reporters today. Lower Austria is one of Vysočina's partner regions. The new project has been named Vysočina Supports Culture, and the region will allocate over two million crowns from its budget for it. Further events are expected to be held with the help of European grants.
The exhibition Silenced Modernity/Illusions and Dreams at the Jihlava gallery will come about thanks to collaboration with a private collector. It will be open from mid-April to early October. "It will focus on a new perception of the avant-garde. We will see the absolute pinnacle from 1880 to 1930," said gallery director Aleš Seifert. The exhibition will feature paintings, drawings, and graphics by significant representatives of the European avant-garde, such as Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, and Oskar Kokoschka, as well as works by top Czech artists. An important part will be the art of Czech Germans. "Our goal is to reflect the work of Czech Germans and Jewish authors, whose fate was gradual marginalization and deliberate suppression of their existence," the director explained.
The exhibition will be accompanied by expert lectures and guided tours for the public, some of which will be in German. The accompanying program will include Folk Summer and six concerts in various towns of Vysočina, featuring Lower Austrian performers. At the end of September, a retrospective exhibition of the painter and graphic artist Emanuel Ranný will be opened.
According to the governor, the new project will also promote other traditionally significant events in Vysočina, which include, among others, the Folk Holidays in Náměšť nad Oslavou and the International Music Festival of Petr Dvorský in Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou.
