Prague 8 has chosen the future shape of the space near the Ládví metro station C

Prague – A new design for the space near the cultural center close to the C line metro station Ládví in Prague 8 will be created by architects from the S+ collective and Sulzer Landscape Architect. They succeeded in the competition. This was communicated to CTK by the deputy mayor of Prague 8, Radomír Nepil (ANO). According to information from the city hall, the estimated cost for the new space is 109 million crowns excluding VAT.

The space is located near the cultural house in the Ďáblice housing estate and is currently, according to city hall representatives, in a neglected state that does not reflect its importance for life in the area. The winning proposal, according to local representatives, connects the previously fragmented spaces and creates conditions for daily meetings, markets, cultural events, sports, and relaxation.

The fundamental element of the proposal, according to the city hall, is a new gathering platform that will unify the height differences and connect the cultural house, shops, park, metro station, and connecting streets. Stairs, ramps, and benches are intended to be a natural part of the space, not additional barriers. "The design respects the modernist architecture of Ládví while also bringing greenery, water, seating areas, and conditions for markets and cultural events into the space,” Nepil stated.

According to the proposal, space with water jets will be created near the metro, with a quieter gathering area around the historical fountain of Viktor Tuček and, towards the greenery, space connecting to the park, sports areas, and children's playground. It will be complemented by a covered boulevard that will offer protection from rain and sun and a place for relaxation, games, or exercise.

The unifying motif of the design is a square, thus the authors, according to the city hall, refer to the original urban concept of Ládví. The architects also accounted for permeable surfaces for better water retention, vegetation islands, new trees, perennial flower beds, and terrain modeling. The authors, with whom the city hall plans to conclude a contract for the creation of project documentation after the deadline for submitting objections to the competition results, also plan to use recycled concrete from the original surfaces of the square.

The Ďáblice housing estate is located in the Kobylisy area and was built between 1969 and 1975. According to information from the city district, the estate is unique in that part of the buildings is arranged in blocks like in historical Prague neighborhoods, which separates the streets with traffic from the quiet inner blocks. The Ládví metro station began operating in 2004 as the then terminus of line C until the opening of the next section to Letňany in 2008.
