Ostrava – New apartments will be added in the center of Ostrava. They will replace the originally planned multifunctional building that was to be built in an area known as Malé Lauby. The change to the original project was requested by the investor. Mayor Jan Dohnal (Together) informed journalists about this.
"We sold the land where a clinic for plastic surgery was supposed to be built next to today's laubů, with retail space below and offices above. After an agreement with the investor, who requested this from us, we agreed on a change of the project's intent. We believe it is the right decision. The new apartment building will offer 50 residential units. There will be underground parking spaces. Of course, it is the city center, so there will still be a lively ground floor with services and access to all streets," stated Dohnal.
Due to the change in the functional use of the building, its appearance and the originally planned construction schedule will also change, as it will be necessary to develop new project documentation. By the end of this year at the latest, the investor must apply for permission to change the project intention of the building. After obtaining the necessary permits, construction must begin within three months according to the mayor and should last no longer than a year and a half.
"The change of the original intent will strengthen the multifunctional character of the city center. It will offer residents quality housing in an area with good access to services in close proximity to Masarykovo náměstí. In addition to spaces for services, the building can provide space for health services, offices, administrative activities, or professional consulting activities," added Dohnal.
According to him, the new apartments can attract more residents to the city. The councilors decided on the sale of the land in 2021. The investor paid over 14 million crowns excluding VAT for more than 1,400 square meters.
