Tábor – Tábor has launched an architectural competition for the reconstruction of the former post office, where part of the municipal office will move. It is a complex of two buildings located in Žižkov Square. Interested parties can submit their designs for the architectural competition until September 30. CTK was informed by Luboš Dvořák, spokesperson for the Tábor municipal office.
"From the winning proposal, we expect a harmony between contemporary architecture and the historical environment, a pair of buildings that are appropriately representative and will provide a dignified environment for the daily work of the city, buildings that embody the values of openness, efficiency, and long-term sustainability. I believe that the architectural competition is a transparent process of obtaining the highest quality proposal for the building modifications," stated Tábor's mayor, Štěpán Pavlík (Tábor 2020).
The city acquired the former post office for approximately 34 million crowns. It is a historical object with a round annex built in 1910, designed by architect Theodor Petřík. Originally, the building served as a savings bank. The mayor expressed his pleasure that a building which belongs to the symbols of Tábor will belong to the city.
"The main expectations that the local government associated with the acquisition of the building were to streamline the operation of the office and to maintain a public function in a place where the residents of Tábor have long been accustomed to it and where it makes sense from the perspective of sustainable development of the city," the mayor said. The town hall is also located near the former post office building in Žižkov Square. However, part of the municipal office is based in another part of the city on Husova Square, from where the departments would then move to the former post office.
The planned reconstruction will not begin for at least two years. The former post office building is currently being temporarily used by the Tábor library, as its facilities are undergoing reconstruction.
