On May 17, 2018, the XV. year of the Bohuslav Fuchs Award took place at the Faculty of Architecture, under the patronage of the dean of the Faculty of Architecture at Brno University of Technology, doc. Ing. arch. Jan Hrubý, CSc. This is a competition for the best studio and studio projects.
The jubilee fifteenth year brought a couple of novelties. In order to integrate the first-year students into the faculty community, we introduced a new category "Best ZAN (Fundamentals of Architectural Design) Project". Another novelty is the evaluation of individual studios, which should help students in making decisions when choosing a studio and overall raise the level of the school.
The works are evaluated by a six-member independent jury composed of recognized personalities of Czech architecture and selected winners from the previous year among the students. In the XV. year, the jury included Mgr. Markéta Žáčková, Ing. arch. Václav Štojdl, Ing. arch. Pavel Martinka, Laura Dräxler, Ivana Galková, and Nikola Stiburková.
The jury met in the morning for a joint breakfast and then began to weave through the numerous displayed works. First, they toured the entire school to gain an overall overview. In the second round of touring, the jurors nominated selected projects for the shortlist. While the jury enjoyed a home-cooked lunch and gathered their strength, we collected the nominated works into one room for better clarity. After three hours of contemplation, the jurors had made their decisions.
In the category of best studio for the summer semester of 2017/2018, the team of Ing. arch. Jan Hora, MgA. Barbora Hora, and Ing. arch. Jan Veisser emerged victorious.
Two main prizes were awarded - the so-called Winning Projects. One was won by Oskar Madro from the second year for his studio work titled Mikulovské interiéry, with the assignment of the studio: In a flat in a small town, under the supervision of Ing. arch. Jan Hora, MgA. Barbora Hora, and Ing. arch. Jan Veisser. The second winner of the winning project category was the team consisting of Mariana Kubová, Diana Hodulíková, Jan Peřina, and Nikola Pokupec for their work Brněnský trojúhelník – Sukcesivní Palimpsest II, with the supervisor Ing. arch. Jiří Vítek.
The award for the best ZAN studio went to the project "Vila Savoy" created by the team of Aneta Cvrčková, Adéla Bermellová, Marek Hlavička, and Petra Remutová, with supervisor Ing. Jiří Vítek.
A special TON award was deservedly given to the theoretical work by Tatiana Kobyliaková, David Zatloukal, and Zuzana Zbellová titled "Me and the Falcon". The supervisors of this work are Ing. arch. Nikol Gale and M.A. Svatopluk Sládeček.
In the category of awarded projects, Tatiana Uhríková's work, House by the River, was recognized, with studio supervisor: Ing. Vítěslav Nový and Ing. arch. Michal Palaščák. Another awarded project was the work of Pavla Nesvadbíková, Community Center Komárov, supervised by doc. Ing. arch. Josef Kiszka and Ing. arch. Petr Hýl. The third awarded project was Vedrana Radović's work, Future of the exhibition center, with supervisors: Ing. arch. Kateřina Dokoupilová Pazderková, doc. Ing. arch. Maxmilián Wittmann, Ph.D., Ing. arch. Lenka Štěpánková.
