Blansko

Blansko - The leadership of the Blansko city hall is planning extensive investments in the upcoming four years. By 2018, before the next municipal elections, the dilapidated Dukla hotel will be removed from the city center, and a park will be created in its place. The councilors further plan to construct a shopping center, expand cycling paths, revitalize the surroundings of the castle, and reinvigorate the recreational area of Palava, and they are preparing a project for the construction of a bridge connecting the center with Old Blansko. This was stated today by Mayor Ivo Polák (ČSSD).
These and other projects are included in the newly adopted program declaration of the councilors. The city hall coalition has consisted of ČSSD, ODS, KDU-ČSL, and the grouping Choice for the City for 14 years.
The demolition of the Dukla hotel in Republic Square and the subsequent transformation of the released 3000 square meters into a park will cost eight million crowns and is planned for this November. The councilors want to better connect the center with the neighboring castle park. Still this year, a new staircase will connect them for 1.5 million crowns. In the future, the city's pedestrian zone should end in the park after its expansion.
Within two years, construction should begin on the northern edge of the city for a new shopping center after the demolition of the greenhouses. It will consist of 14 stores with textiles, footwear, sports equipment, or household accessories. So far, people have been going to Brno to purchase these items. The city is already negotiating this project with an investor.
The city hall is counting on the development of cycling paths. There are gaps at the northernmost and southernmost edges of the city. Next year, lighting is to be built on these paths for six million crowns. They run along the banks of the Svitava River, which, according to Polák, needs to be developed along with the surroundings of the Palava reservoir as two of the most important relaxation areas in the city. On the Sports Island, the mayor envisions the creation of a sports playground for seniors. Above the hospital, which is owned by the city hall, a parking lot for 130 cars should be constructed within two years at a cost of two million crowns.
The councilors want to prepare a project for the construction of a bridge that will go over the railway tracks and connect the center with Old Blansko. Due to poor passability across the railway, the city center faces traffic jams daily. This will be a project worth one hundred million crowns. "We are negotiating this project with the South Moravian Region. It will not do without subsidies," added Polák.
