Mladá Boleslav - Mladá Boleslav is preparing a radical transformation of the House of Culture. The building no longer meets modern requirements. Studies of the future appearance and use of the building are ready, and work is expected to start in April next year, with the renovated House of Culture serving the public from September 2018. The project also includes increasing the capacity of the adjacent parking lot. This was stated today by Deputy Mayor Daniel Marek. "The reconstruction of the House of Culture is one of the priorities of the city for the current electoral term. Discussions about its new form have been ongoing since 2014," said Marek. According to him, debates regarding the future of the cultural house have been held across generations, from schools to seniors. The city also organized a public discussion on this topic. "The information gathered has been passed to the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Liberec, which provided us with studies of possible forms on February 29," Marek noted. He stated that it is important for the house to be operational from morning to evening throughout the week. The proposals submitted by the faculty contain two variants. The first considers placing a library on the first floor of the building, while the second involves the creation of a congress center. In both cases, the main and dance halls, as well as the restaurant located in the building, would be preserved. "The use should definitely be much broader than it is now; the basement should have a music club, rehearsal rooms, or a café," Marek outlined further possibilities. The city leadership, in cooperation with the Liberec faculty, is preparing a public presentation of the studies, which is to take place at the turn of April and May, followed by a discussion with both expert and lay audiences. "By the summer, we would like to have clarity on which direction we will take," said the deputy mayor. In the second half of this year, according to him, the project documentation will be commissioned, at the beginning of 2017 the city intends to select a contractor, and work should begin in April of that year. The city hall aims to have it completed by September 2018. "We have a year and a half for this, and during that time, we obviously cannot leave the House of Culture closed, so the work will be carried out gradually," Marek said. The costs for the renovation have not yet been calculated; for the more expensive variant with the library, the city is estimating approximately 80 to 90 million crowns, including the exterior cladding of the building. Part of the transformation of the House of Culture will also be the construction of a two-story parking garage on the site of the current parking lot, so that it meets the needs of visitors to the House of Culture and local residents within the planned new parking system in Mladá Boleslav.
