Luhačovice - Luhačovice in the Zlin region are preparing a renovation of the 28th of October Square in the center of the spa town, where the town hall building is also located. The work is set to begin next year, said town hall spokesperson Hana Srncová today.
"The aim of the revitalization is to make the square user-friendly and suitable for cultural events. The ecological aspect of the project is also crucial, with the overall solution being adapted to permeable surfaces in light of climate change, and part of the revitalization will include increasing the amount of greenery. New misting systems, a water feature, and places designated for sitting and relaxation will be created in the square. The project anticipates creating a pleasant public space that will serve both the residents and visitors of the city,” stated Mayor Marian Ležák (independent).
The estimated costs are around 36 million crowns. The city has received a European grant for the project, which will cover up to 85 percent of eligible expenses. The city leadership presented the final form of the square's renovation project to the public at the end of April, in collaboration with architects from Ellement Architects.
"The square area includes designed benches without backrests as well as with backrests, and there are comfortable double sun loungers added to the lawn. Concrete and wooden steps along the edges of the reinforced area are also intended for seating. An atypical feature is a drinking fountain designed as a sloped basin that retains the flowing water. The atmosphere of summer days will be refreshed by misting nozzles installed directly in the fountain and on a column in the grassy area," the architects from Ellement Architects noted.
The project also follows up on a public discussion from 2024 when the city asked residents about their vision for the square in a questionnaire. According to the results, 98 percent of residents of Luhačovice wished to transform the current empty space lacking atmosphere into a place for relaxation in the shade of trees and amidst greenery, the spokesperson said.
