Kroměříž - The Kroměříž City Hall is preparing for the reconstruction of the funeral hall at the city cemetery on Velehradská Street. The city council has already approved the selection of a contractor for the architectural study. Ideally, renovations could begin during this electoral term, said city hall spokesman Jan Vondrášek today.
The study will be prepared by architect Martin Cviček from Brno, who, according to Deputy Mayor Daniela Hebnarová (ODS), submitted the best offer in the announced open public contract. "The study will focus on the funeral hall itself as well as the surrounding areas, such as parking spaces, communication routes, and landscaping," Hebnarová stated.
The city will pay 155,000 CZK without VAT for the preparation of the study, which should be completed by the end of this April. According to Hebnarová, the reconstruction of the funeral hall was one of the options to improve the condition, environment, and dignity of the building where people bid farewell to their deceased. The city also considered demolishing it and constructing a new funeral hall. However, surveys revealed, according to Vondrášek, that the building is in very good condition, therefore the city will proceed with its reconstruction. There are also plans to equip the hall with modern audio and video technology.
The municipal cemetery was established in its current location at the beginning of the 20th century. After World War II, it merged with the Jewish cemetery, and the Jewish funeral hall was converted into a funeral hall in 1960, where all ceremonies have taken place since then.
