Brno - In Brno, discussions will resume about whether to relocate the main railway station one kilometer south or to reconstruct the railway junction and station in the center of Brno. The new city leadership has called a meeting for January 9, which should include two representatives from each side in the council. CTK was informed about this by councilor Martin Ander (SZ). "The aim of the meeting is to initiate a discussion on the form of a comparative analysis that will fairly assess both options for modernizing the Brno railway junction - with the station in the relocated position and with the station in the center," stated the councilor. The Deputy Mayor responsible for investments, Ladislav Macek (ČSSD), told CTK that the coalition committed to comparing both options for the repair of the Brno railway, but it must not disrupt the work on the project initiated by the previous coalition. "The territorial proceedings for the station in the relocated position are underway," said Macek. He added that the Social Democrats will then support the project that comes out of the assessment as the winner. The position of the station has not yet been definitively decided; officials have not yet issued the territorial decision, a key document that precedes the building permit. The project, which includes the construction of a new station in the southern part of Brno, less than a kilometer from its current location, was promoted by the previous Brno coalition led by the ODS. In addition to the Civic Democrats, it is also supported by the opposition Communists and the Christian Democrats, who joined the new Brno coalition after the elections alongside the opponents of the so-called relocation of the station - the Social Democrats, Greens, and independents from the Brno 2006 association. The previous Brno coalition supported the project despite the fact that the majority of referendum participants expressed opposition to it. Some politicians then questioned the validity of the vote - prior to the referendum, some people from the city leadership urged supporters of the so-called relocation not to participate in the voting. Civil Democrats are likely to be present at Tuesday's meeting. "We received a CD with information about the project from Deputy Mayor Ander; we are now making copies so that all interested club members can familiarize themselves with the content," said ODS club secretary and councilor Petr Paulczyňski to CTK.
