Brno - The environment in front of the Brno Main Train Station will begin to improve this weekend. Workers will re-pave the sidewalk in front of the station building up to the underpass to Křenová Street, as well as the sidewalk from the underpass towards the Grand Hotel. Ilona Cahová from Brno Communications informed ČTK about this. The project, costing eight million crowns, will be more of a cosmetic adjustment. A complete renovation of the area in front of the station will be part of the reconstruction of Benešova Street, at the earliest in two years. The cracked asphalt sidewalk in front of the exit from the station building will be replaced with granite paving, and one tree will be planted there, surrounded by a bench. "Towards the underpass, a new surface made of concrete paving will be laid. The sidewalk at the trolleybus stops will also be repaired, where there will be a granite mosaic, and the sidewalk from the viaduct to the Grand Hotel will also be modified," said Cahová. The remains of crumbling walls will also be demolished, along with the foundations of former kiosks, and the newsstand will disappear. The area between the existing parking lot and the sidewalk will be filled with soil, and a new retaining wall will be created there. "We will also plant five new trees here," stated Cahová. During the renovations, nine benches and new trash bins will be placed in the area. Trees will be cut down over the weekend, and construction will not start until March 23 due to coordination with railway disruptions. Completion is anticipated by the end of July. The current modifications are expected to contribute to the cultivation of the space in front of the station. However, the adjustment of tram stops, exits from underpasses, and a complete solution to the confusing traffic situation will only be part of the repairs on Benešova Street. Currently, the project documentation is being developed, and according to the mayor's deputy Richard Mrázek (ANO), construction could start in 2017 if no major obstacles arise.
