Liberec - The reconstruction of the historical municipal spa building in Liberec will be more expensive than previously anticipated. It has been revealed that the interiors are not part of the contract, and their completion will cost an estimated additional 42 million crowns. The Liberec Region has already announced a public competition for the interior project, will secure the funds for implementation, and the city will then settle with it. The reconstruction of the municipal spa began last fall and is among the largest projects co-financed by European funds in the city. The construction is funded by the city, which owns the spa, but after completion, the region will take over the building and relocate its regional gallery there. The city will receive the original building in exchange. The expensive construction is expected to be completed by mid-2013, with the gallery moving in a year later. The reconstruction is being managed by the Pardubice company Chládek and Tintěra, which won the public competition with a price of 380 million crowns and assures that it will adhere to the price. However, another 42 million for the interiors will now be necessary. "When I learned at the end of last year that the spa interiors had not been designed and that they were not included in the construction price, my hair stood on end," said Lidie Vajnerová, the deputy governor of Liberec for culture. Controversial contracts for the reconstruction of the spa and also for the completion of the municipal pool were one of the causes of the fall of the government of former mayor Jan Korytář (Change for Liberec) last spring. He pointed out that the selection process and contracts were unfavorable for the city and that they would be costly. "We have criticized from the beginning the fact that there is no competition for the complete documentation but only for the documentation for the building permit," said former economic deputy Jaromír Baxa (Change for Liberec). The current city leadership does not feel responsible for the price increase. "Members of the current city leadership do not have sufficient information about the initial stages of the project because they were not in office when it was created. Therefore, they do not have answers to the question of why the interiors were not included in the project," stated city spokesperson Pavlína Stránská.
